Megan Campbell is a solo and chamber percussionist currently based in Frankfurt, Germany. A dynamic and emotional performer, Megan is known for her specialization in new music performance and for her rudimental drumming ability. She has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician in various venues across the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Italy, The Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and China. Since 2023, she has participated in the premieres of 15 new pieces for solo percussion, chamber percussion, and mixed chamber ensemble, performing these works in a total of 9 different countries.
Megan most recently performed as a touring member with the Royal Danish Academy of Music Percussion Group, performing in 3 different cities across China, along with competing in the 8th Annual World Marimba Competition in Hangzhou. In 2024, she was a Percussion Performance Fellow for the Cortona Sessions for New Music, in Ede, the Netherlands, where she won the yearly Hiebert Prize for Solo Contemporary Performance in the Cortona Contemporary Solo Competition. Previously, she was a featured soloist for the World Percussion Group Fall 2023 Tour, premiering two solos for snare drum and electronics, along with participating in chamber music and conducting masterclasses throughout the UK, Spain, and Portugal.
Megan has received several awards in other disciplines, winning prizes at the APCS Jakarta International Solo Competition, the Italy Percussive Arts Society International Competition, Snare Drum Solo Division, along with the Great Plains International Marimba Competition and the Southern California International Marimba Competition, Open Duo Division. From 2020-2023, she performed with the UNT Snare Ensemble and the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps, performing across the United States, and in special collaboration with the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps at the PASIC Drummer’s Heritage Concert in 2022.
As an educator, Megan has given masterclasses on American Rudimental Snare Drumming to conservatory students in Spain, Portugal, Sweden, and at the Royal College of Music in London, UK. She has additionally taught and arranged music for various high school marching bands in the United States, and was the Battery Coordinator for the University of North Texas Green Brigade Marching Band in 2022.
Megan is currently pursuing her Master’s in Percussion Performance at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, studying with Søren Monrad, Johan Bridger, Anders Kann Elten, David Hildebrandt, and Lorenzo Colombo, and the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt, studying with Emil Kuyumcuyan. She previously completed her Bachelor’s of Music Education at the University of North Texas, studying with Mark Ford, Dave Hall, Paul Rennick, Christopher Deane, and Ed Smith.
